Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri is an Indian actress who has gained fame for her role in Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Beta Saajan. Her career began in the late 1980s, and rose to prominence with her performance in the film Tezaab where she starred with the veteran actor Anil Kapoor. In the next film, Dil, Aamir Khan appeared as well. In Mumbai, she was raised by middle class parents. As a child, she began to learn about stage, she was able to study dance. At the age of 16 she started acting, and suffered for several years because most of her early films failed. Eventually she became one the top actresses from Indian film. After her marriage, she took some time to rest from her acting career prior to returning. She was recently one of the main characters in Gulaab Gang about Indian women. Dixit was nominated for 15 Filmfare Awards, out of which she was awarded eight. Padma Shri - the fourth most prestigious civilian award of India awarded to Dixit. Her reputation also includes for social activism.
